Hi Caris,

It's Orchid, made 1981-1982, and the colourway is Ice. Have a look here for a similar plate:

Hope this helps.

Hi
I like this plate very much and I was hoping for more information on it,  I have never seen one before, it is very unusual for Isle of Wight glass. Seller says it has an early black triangle label

Thanks in advance

There is a Humbug egg paperweight available on eBay just now. It is the version of Humbug that came out in 1986 only and is quite scarce. The price they are asking is very reasonable. I already have a similar piece or I would have grabbed it by now.

 Cheesy

Thanks Suzy! I have now managed to id my Gozo bits. I have a Seashell (eeek) a Stone, and the bit Ivo Haanstra gave me when he came to visit is Seaweed. (  Grin name-dropper.... Embarrassed)
However, I now realise I have 3 bits.... which by definition, is a collection.. Shocked

Thanks to all three of you for your input - I'm convinced that it's Gemstone Opal.  Happy days!

I would very much like to see more Gozo pieces/info Caris as I've got a passion for the early pieces too, it's all part of the MH legacy after all so I'm sure would be of interest to other forum members too.

I have found this link useful for IDing pieces

Thanks for your input Caris, because it got us all looking at it properly.
I believe this is "sorted". Gemstone Opal it is. Cheesy

I would say 100% Gemstone Opal. A great find Suzy. The size is exactly right at 4.75 inches = 12.1 cm as in the 1993 shape lists in Mark's book (current Gozo pieces are 14 cm). The shape is right for Opal - notice the rim doesn't curl down as much in IOWSG than it does in Gozo. The background colour is whiter in Opal than anything that Gozo produces. The colours on the eBay piece and the IOWSG Archive page are almost identical.

So I'm with Suzy and Sue. Sorry Caris.

The main Gozo website seems to be down right now, but I found the uk distributor's site.

I'm inclined to agree with Suzy that her piece is IoWSG Gemstone Opal. The pattern on Gozo is more complex, with striations as well as swirls.
However, a peek at an old Gozo catalogue might help a lot! Cheesy
