Priceless Antiques Roadshow Feb 1st 2010
The quote from Andy Warhol is about to come true for the Master Glassmaker Timothy Harris at Isle of Wight Studio Glass. Well, almost ~ the quote was of course was for 15 minutes of fame but for Timothy it is actually 6 minutes. However it is going to be on no less than BBC TV 2 ~ so that counts surely? It will be aired on Monday 1st of February at 6.30 pm as part of the show called 'Priceless Antiques Roadshow' from the same famous stable. A part of the programme is for the presenters of the regular 'Antiques Roadshow' to engage in a challenge relating to their specialist subject. The first will feature Andy McConnell as the show's glass expert being challenged to make hot blown glass, in one session. This normally takes years of practice, blood, sweat and tears to achieve. The person chosen to be the mentor for this onerous task is Timothy Harris at Isle of Wight Studio Glass, probably the country's most innovative and prolific Master Glassmaker. However Andy (McConnell) rose to the challenge as only he could, full of fire and joyous enthusiasm.

Timothy and Andy begin by studying a wide selection of the world famous Studio's range of designs, one of which is chosen for the challenge. A lesson in glass making from the Maestro, then in at the deep end for Andy but closely supervised in his attempt to make a piece from one of the Studio's most successful, but luckily not too complicated, designs called 'Summer Fruits'.

Well, it proved to be a worthy challenge competently achieved by a worthy participant. To highlight how strenuous an art form this is Andy, really feeling the heat, doused his fire by leaping into the Studio's swimming pool at the end of the session. Physically cooled but enthusiasm still on fire! The whole team of film makers including Julie, the producer, all agreed that it was one of the most enjoyable filming assignments they had engaged in for a long while. Would you expect any less? Serious fun and a sense of real achievement. Don't miss it!
